Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment: Analyze insurance applications and supporting documentation to determine the level of risk involved and recommend coverage limits or exclusions.
- Policy Issuance: Draft and issue insurance policies that align with company guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with claims adjusters, actuaries, and sales agents to resolve complex underwriting issues.
- Portfolio Management: Review existing accounts to identify risks that require increased attention or rate adjustments.
- Compliance: Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to state and federal insurance regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in commercial or personal lines underwriting.
- Licensure: Must hold valid Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance licenses in New York and be willing to obtain additional state licenses as required.
- Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and financial reports.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex underwriting concepts to stakeholders.
- Tools: Proficiency in underwriting software (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire) and Microsoft Office Suite.
