Responsibilities
- Analyze medical records and assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT-10 coding to diagnoses and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and internal quality assurance standards.
- Communicate with physicians and clinical staff to resolve clinical documentation queries and clarify coding requirements.
- Perform regular audits of medical records to identify gaps in documentation and prevent claim denials.
- Utilize EHR systems (Epic, Cerner) to input and retrieve patient data efficiently.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory changes.
- Assist in training junior coders and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- RHIT or RHIA certification is required; RHDS or CCS credential preferred.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in inpatient or outpatient medical coding.
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHR software platforms.
- Excellent analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology or related field.
