Job Summary
As a Medical Records Specialist, you will play a critical role in the lifecycle of patient data. You will ensure that all medical records are accurate, complete, and compliant with federal regulations. Your work directly supports clinical teams and billing departments in delivering high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily maintenance and organization of electronic health records (EHR) and paper files.
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal privacy policies.
- Transcribe and code medical reports accurately using standard medical terminology.
- Review and audit patient charts for completeness and accuracy prior to billing.
- Collaborate with billing and coding departments to resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in the implementation of new health information systems and software updates.
- Manage patient intake forms and verify demographic information.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or equivalent is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical records or health administration.
- Proficient in electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, AthenaHealth).
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high typing accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to regulatory standards.
