Responsibilities
- Review and abstract medical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes.
- Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with physicians and billing staff to resolve complex coding queries and denials.
- Analyze coding trends and data to identify areas for process improvement and revenue enhancement.
- Mentor junior coders and provide training on coding updates and best practices.
- Stay current with changes in coding guidelines, payer policies, and healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in medical coding within a hospital or large clinical setting.
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding guidelines.
- Strong understanding of the revenue cycle process and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
