Responsibilities
- Lead complex, long-term investigative projects from initial tip-off to final publication.
- Conduct deep-dive research, data analysis, and document procurement via FOIA requests.
- Cultivate and maintain a robust network of high-level sources across various industries.
- Collaborate with multimedia producers and data journalists to create immersive visual storytelling.
- Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics, accuracy, and legal compliance.
- Mentor junior reporters and assist in the development of the newsroom's editorial strategy.
- Participate in editorial meetings to pitch unique, high-value story angles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in investigative journalism at a reputable outlet.
- Proven track record of breaking original, high-impact stories.
- Expertise in public records access, database journalism, and advanced research tools.
- Exceptional narrative writing skills with a keen eye for detail and pacing.
- Ability to travel as required and work effectively under tight editorial deadlines.
- Deep understanding of media law, libel, and ethical reporting standards.
