Responsibilities
- Lead complex investigative projects from conception through to publication.
- Cultivate and maintain a diverse network of reliable, high-level sources.
- Conduct thorough data analysis to support investigative findings and narrative arcs.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure factual accuracy and ethical compliance.
- Draft compelling, long-form narratives that adhere to our publication's rigorous standards.
- Mentor junior reporters and assist in the refinement of their investigative techniques.
- Represent the organization in public forums, panels, and media appearances.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in investigative reporting at a recognized news organization.
- Proven track record of publishing impactful, award-winning investigative pieces.
- Expertise in FOIA requests, public records laws, and digital research tools.
- Strong editorial judgment and impeccable writing/storytelling skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure deadline environment.
- Deep understanding of media law, ethics, and libel standards.
