Responsibilities
- Pitch and execute high-impact investigative long-form features and multi-media series.
- Conduct deep-dive research, analyze public records, and cultivate a robust network of whistleblowers and sources.
- Collaborate with data analysts and graphic designers to visualize complex information for digital readers.
- Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic integrity, accuracy, and legal compliance.
- Interview high-profile subjects under tight deadlines while maintaining professional objectivity.
- Monitor current events to identify emerging patterns and underreported systemic issues.
- Mentor junior reporters and assist in the editorial vetting process for sensitive content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in newsrooms with a focus on investigative reporting.
- Expertise in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and database journalism (SQL, Excel).
- Exceptional narrative storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex data into compelling prose.
- Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- A portfolio showcasing previously published investigative work or award-winning journalism.
- Strong understanding of media law, ethics, and libel standards.
