Responsibilities
- Lead complex investigations with national implications using FOIA requests, document analysis, and human sources
- Develop original story concepts that advance public understanding of critical issues
- Mentor junior journalists through editorial review and skills development workshops
- Collaborate with multimedia teams to produce documentaries, podcasts, and interactive data visualizations
- Represent the publication at industry conferences and public forums
- Adhere to strict ethical standards while maintaining rigorous journalistic integrity
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of professional journalism experience with proven investigative portfolio
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with published long-form work
- Expertise in data journalism tools (SQL, Python, Tableau) and FOIA litigation
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines
- Strong network of confidential sources across government and industry sectors
- Experience mentoring journalists and developing investigative strategies
- Portfolio showcasing impactful stories that drove policy or social change
