Responsibilities
- Analyze complex commercial property and casualty risks to determine insurability and pricing.
- Manage a high-value portfolio of accounts, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including claims and loss control, to assess risk exposures accurately.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers to secure profitable business while maintaining competitive market presence.
- Mentor junior underwriters and provide technical guidance on challenging risk assessments.
- Monitor market trends and industry shifts to adjust underwriting strategies proactively.
- Perform regular account reviews to identify performance improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience, with a focus on middle-market accounts.
- Active CPCU, ARM, or equivalent professional insurance designations preferred.
- Deep understanding of state-specific regulatory environments and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads with meticulous attention to detail.
- Exceptional negotiation and interpersonal skills for high-stakes broker interactions.
- Proficiency with modern underwriting software, data analytics tools, and CRM platforms.
