Responsibilities
- Perform complex clinical laboratory tests on blood, urine, and tissue samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-volume automated laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols, quality control standards, and regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
- Analyze data and report results accurately and promptly to the clinical team.
- Mentor and supervise Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) and trainees to ensure departmental proficiency.
- Participate in internal quality assurance audits and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Handle sensitive patient information with the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Medical Technology, or Clinical Laboratory Science.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent provincial body.
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong knowledge of hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues and maintain equipment calibration.
- Fluency in English (both written and verbal); Bilingualism (French) is a significant asset.
